What are Bodybuilder Habits? We’ve all seen people working out to achieve their dream physique, but how many of them actually achieve their goals? Only a few of them achieve their goals and most blame their lack of success on their genetics, but let’s face it – the problem is surely somewhere else. While great genetics will surely help you achieve more, better, and faster results, even with great genetics you’re achieving nothing without proper habits.
To achieve great goals, you need to do something again and again and again, and with time, they form some habits. Here I am going to share some bodybuilder habits – the ones that a lot of bodybuilders have in order to achieve the results they achieved. First off, it’s important to understand that becoming a successful bodybuilder is going to take a whole lot of self-discipline.
Maybe you’re not dreaming of becoming a bodybuilder, but improving your body-imagine and achieving a dream physique would still require you to have some very similar habits to a bodybuilder. So, even with average genetics, you can still achieve your goals. It’s all about getting into a routine that would give you everything you need to succeed. That’s why it takes so much discipline. Unfortunately, gains are not going to happen overnight. Even if you use anabolic steroids, it still takes hard work and dedication to get you there.
Steroids and Habits
While anabolic steroids can be a great way to boost your way to your physique, you won’t become anything similar to a bodybuilder overnight. So, you still need to follow a regimen. But what is that? Lifting a dumbbell and then going home to eat pizza definitely is not enough. If you’re following athletes or bodybuilders on social media, I’m pretty sure you’ve seen some common patterns in their daily lives. This indicates that there are certain things that we need to do every single day in order to achieve great success in this field of body shaping.
For those who are serious about bodybuilding, it becomes less of a hobby and more of a job. But for someone who is not searching for actual bodybuilding but rather just self-improvement, it still needs to become a hobby you need to follow on a daily basis.
We are working every day. Well, at least 5 days a week. So, it’s pretty similar here. If you want to see the gains that you dream of, you are going to make sure that you are working on it on a daily basis. At least, five days a week. You need to treat your passion for fitness as a job as long as you want to have results, as you want in your job.
So, using steroids or not, you are still going to need the right approach on how to structure your day to smash your goals. Again, anabolic steroids that you can buy will greatly help yield the most results and achieve those goals faster. But you still need to work hard and implement the bodybuilder habits. Let’s take a look at them.
Get A Routine
The absolute best of achieving the absolute best is to do the same thing over and over again. Even Bruce Lee said that he’s not afraid of the person who learned 1,000 different fighting techniques. He’s afraid of the one who learned one fighting technique 1,000 times. So, you should be following a schedule. It’s not that you should be going to the gym “whenever it suits you” or “whenever you remember”. You should have a routine and stick to it.
Again, studies prove that when you have a consistent routine and work out around the same time each day, your muscles are actually responding better.
And not only that. When you have a schedule you follow, you are going to be more organized. This reduces stress levels. Less stress = more gains. Again, if you want serious gains, you need to take it seriously sticking to a regimen.
Wake up early
It is extremely likely you’ll never see a professional bodybuilder sleeping through their days. People who are most successful are waking up early to start their day. That’s especially true if you want to become successful in body shaping. You will also notice that most bodybuilders are getting up early in the morning and the first thing to do is – morning workouts. There are scientific studies indicating that workouts in the morning are the most successful ones. Then they have the rest of the day to sort out their business.
Even if you do not workout in the morning, you will still experience a myriad of benefits of waking up early:
- Improves brain function
- Reduces stress (therefore, reduces cortisol – a hormone that hinders your gains)
- Improves mood and mental health (which is very important for a bodybuilder)
- Better sleep (no need to mention the importance of sleep for gaining muscle and losing fat)
- Overall increases productivity and organization
With today’s technology, it’s not uncommon to go to sleep past 1-2 AM or even later. Therefore, you wake up past 9-10 AM or even later – a bad habit you definitely want to avoid as long as you want to achieve your dream physique.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Waking at 6 AM is an awesome habit, as I just explained, but sleeping 5-6 hours a night is one of the worst habits. It doesn’t really matter how hard you’re pushing yourself in the gym and how great of a diet you have, the good quality sleep is where all the magic happens. You should aim for a minimum of 7-8 hours of sleep every night. This is what your body and muscles need to rest and properly recover after working out. While for some 6 hours may be enough, that’s very rarely and only in certain circumstances. Anything below that point is not healthy.
Being sleep deprived will not only hinder your gains, but it is going to create all sorts of health issues too. Wearing the “badge of honor” of sleep deprivation isn’t anything honorable. Make sure you get enough sleep. And as I earlier said, make sure you get enough sleep during the correct time of the day.
Eat Frequently
There’s no need to mention the importance of eating clean when you want to achieve a dream physique. Bodybuilding icons didn’t achieve their goals by eating pizza and donuts. So while it’s already a cliche mentioning that you need to eat healthy. You need a clean and varied diet. Of course, diet is essential for achieving your goals. It is a whole different topic with a hell of a lot of information.
But it’s not only what you eat, it’s also about how often you eat. And you also need to eat at regular times. Eating and giving your muscles what they need at regular intervals is vital for the recovery process. The process that actually makes your muscles grow.
If you’re aiming at building muscles, you’re going to need to aim for 6-8 meals a day! This is going to keep your fuel intake up and achieve the ultimate physique. This will also allow you to eat less per meal, rather than having one large meal. Eating less will make your body more able to process the foods and take the nutrients it needs more efficiently. With one large meal, your body may go into the process of fat storing whereas it doesn’t receive what it needs to grow throughout the rest of the day.
Set Your Goals
While you need to dream big, you also need to create some realistic goals for yourself. This way you’re more likely to hit them which is going to boost your confidence and motivation – extremely important for the body shaping process. But you still need to set long-term goals, which, although still need to be realistic, can be “riskier”.
But setting your goals is very important. It’s just almost impossible to expect any results when you’re not aiming for anything. All successful bodybuilders have a goal in their minds when they are in the gym. They know why they are working out. It helps you continue working your way, not stopping until you achieve your goal.
So, you need both short term goals and long term ones. Don’t be afraid to set your goals. But do not have any unrealistic goals. If you plan to have a similar physique to Arnold Schwarzenegger within a year – I will disappoint you, you won’t, unless you’re already somewhat similar.
Plan Everything
Benjamin Franklin famous quote: If you fail to prepare, then you prepare to fail. You should plan everything and do not confuse it with setting your goal. You should be planning how to achieve your goals. To succeed, you need to know how to workout, diet, and have your day planned – all in advance. You should organize everything. This way, you remain focused on each activity that you do, giving 100% of yourself, rather than worrying about what to do next and whether you do it right.
For example, based on the “eating frequently” habit – you need to plan out your meals. This way you make sure that your food is ready to eat when your body needs it. Rather than having nothing left to eat or eating “whatever”.
Visualize Your Results
We all have different goals. While some of us would love to be huge and strong, others would rather be ripped and shredded. Regardless – visualize results. Arnold is the one who made visualization famous but many others after him used and promoted visualization techniques. Imagine your dream physique and then work out both in the gym and in the kitchen to achieve those goals.
The combination of visualization with a strong mindset has the ability to take your results to the next level. Exactly as without a goal you are unlikely to achieve any goals, the same here. Without visualization, you’re unlikely to see anything in real life. But if you picture your desired results in your head and keep them there, you are way more likely to see those results in real life.
Other Activities
While you’re working hard to improve yourself in the gym, it’s pretty obvious that you still have plenty of time for other activities too. That’s why I strongly recommend getting involved in something new. Yes, spending time in the gym may be enjoyable, but you should not let it consume you. That’s why it would be much better if you could take some time to work on something that you enjoy besides working out. The most famous bodybuilders are having a very efficient time in the gym, but then they are building their world outside of the gym too. This way, your gym efficiency will improve too.
Bodybuilding is not only gym, it’s lifestyle. You will achieve success when you have success in your life. Stress and poor life quality will kill your gains, sooner or later. So, do something you love. It can be whatever passion or hobby you want. Just make sure it is something that you really love and do it.
Enjoy What You Do
Sometimes it can be hard to keep yourself pushing forward. Sometimes you may not have the motivation. Other times you may not see the changes that you hoped you would see and this could make you feel frustrated and anxious.
Regardless, it should not stop you from doing what you know you should be doing. Because if it does – you lose. Bodybuilding is a place where you never lose, unless when you give up. You may have worked hard for half a year but then you gave up – it means that you lost. You shouldn’t give up and to do that, you have to enjoy what you’re doing.
For this reason, it is so important to avoid stress and have fun outside the gym. Do not pass up an opportunity to enjoy yourself. You should spend time on what you enjoy. See your friends and family, and do what you love. Only when your daily routine becomes fun, that’s when you cannot ever lose. When your workout becomes fun and your life becomes fun – that’s when you’ll yield the best gains.
Share Success
Now, one of the last final “steps” and habits that you have to implement in your routine – sharing success.
While sharing your success might not be a problem for some of us, it is actually a problem for others. That’s why, this is a habit I would need to mention specifically for those who are used to “staying in the dark”. Successful bodybuilders always share their success. Look at Arnold and all other bodybuilding icons. They are all sharing their success. Check Instagram – bodybuilders always do it. With the help of all social media -it isn’t hard to share your success. If you achieve a goal, make sure everyone knows about it. Shout it out loud and enjoy it.
Of course, do not confuse it with ego, and do not share success in a bad light. But sharing is showing your hard work is paying off. It could help to motivate and inspire others. It could even help motivate and inspire yourself too!
Tell your friends and family about it. It may motivate them and they may motivate you back. Enjoy the success. It’s obvious we all want some more. But achieving some small goals is still winning.
